General objectives and distinctive features
The aim of the Doctoral Program started in 1999 by Prof. Giovanni Dosi, is to offer top level academic training comparable to the best international PhD programs in Economics and Management. Our Doctoral Program has two main distinguishing features:
The core of our Doctoral Program consists of a period of 18 months of advanced training in different disciplines of Economic and Managerial Sciences:
it combines the rigor of economic analysis with the "realism" of business and technology studies. The supply of courses reflects this almost unique characterisation of the Program vis-à-vis more traditional international PhDs that are more focussed either on economics or business. it attempts to form researchers with a broad "Renaissance-type" set of skills including quantitative methods, historical analysis, organizational studies, experimental economics.
Admission to research work is conditional on the successful completion of the course work (Courses Outline). At the beginnig of the second year of the program, short intensive modules in a few selected areas are offered, either at the School or at partner institutions, in order to introduce the students to the state-of-the-art of international research. Teaching modules are complemented by research seminars throughout the year. On the ground of their choices among different modules and of the research topics, candidates may opt either for training paths finalized mainly to scientific research or aimed also to acquisition of skills for the management of corporate and public organizations. The courses are taught, in English, by some of the major national and international scholars (Faculty) and researchers in their respective fields.Courses outline

Achievements
The ratio between the number of posts and the total number of applications is similar to those of the most prestigious international doctoral programs. In 2002 we received 57 applications from 11 countries for 10 posts.
The Doctoral Program is part of an international network including Aalborg University, Denmark; University of Maastricht, The Netherlands; University Carlos III of Madrid, Spain; University of Sussex, United Kingdom; University Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France.
At present all students in their 4th year are financed with research grants and assistant researchships.
The placement patterns are comparable to those of the top European academic institutions: details are in table Placement. The list of publications and working papers of our students is equally impressive: see their homepages for details.
